“I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that fully well” Psalm 139:14
All God’s Children Ministry is based on the scriptural truth that all are created in God’s image and as a follower of Christ, we are called to act differently and include people with all needs.
For most of us, Sundays are the days we attend church as a family to worship the Lord and have fellowship with other believers. But there are quite a few families in our community, in this city of Houston, who are deprived of even this simple pleasure of attending church as a family just because they have a child who is unable to mainstream into a regular Sunday school class or church. As a result, many families either take turns attending church or quite often, quit church. As per stats 1 in 150 kids need special attention and currently more children are being identified with some type of learning disability. This includes children with Down syndrome, autism, etc. Our church has come to realize this need and we decided to do our best to meet the spiritual and social needs of these children even if it means catering to just one child. Moreover, this ministry gives respite to parents and families, letting them attend our Sunday worship service and socialize with other families.
As each child is unique, we tailor our teaching accordingly. We meet with the family and identify the child’s strengths and exploit their strengths to instill in them God’s word and His relentless love. We teach them Bible stories and reinforce the lessons through art & crafts, puppetry, sports, music etc. And above all, our priority is to love them unconditionally. Also, we have a Special Buddy program where each Sunday we have one child from children’s church as a special buddy to engage in all the activities with our class kids. With this system we hope to promote our child’s social skills and the buddy will in turn learn to be responsible and compassionate, accepting all children and situations.
This is a ministry of pure giving; we give our time and all our love without expecting anything in return. In Luke 6:35, Jesus says “Do good, expecting nothing in return. Then your reward will be great and you will be the children of the Most High.”
